Read Across America

Filed under: Uncategorized —— aamathena @ 3:03 pm

On Friday, March 2 students all across America will be celebrating Read Across America, better know as Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Whether you are eating Green Eggs and Ham, reading Hop on Pop or watching the adventures of the Cat in the Hat, you are never too old to enjoy a Dr. Seuss story.

***Do you have a Dr. Seuss book that’s been your favorite? Leave a message here on our Blog describing why it’s your favorite and enter our Library drawing to win a prize.

“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild
To pick up a book to read with a child.
You’re never too busy, too cool, or too hot,
To pick up a book and share what you’ve got.
In schools and communities,
Let’s gather around,
Let’s pick up a book,
Let’s pass it around.
There are kids all around you,
Kids who will need
Someone to hug,
Someone to read.
Come join us March 2
Your own special way
And make this
America’ s
Read to Kids Day.”

Book Requests?

Is there a book you wish we had in the Library? We are always keeping a list of materials wanted for the SJHS Library. If you have a book or material request, please let us know what it is. Leave a comment here or make your request in person. You can request the name of a book, an author or a topic that you are interested in. What books do you think would be good to have in our library? What books have you read that have made a difference in your life?

About

Welcome fellow educators, parents and students! Please join in our discussion of current happenings at the SJHS Library. I am the Library Media Specialist and webmaster for our school webpage at Stonewall Jackson High School in Shenandoah County. My Master’s Degree in School Library Media was through Western Maryland College, now McDaniel College in Westminster, MD. I hold an undergraduate degree from Salisbury University in MD. In 2004, I completed the NTTI Master Teacher training program through WVPT. My spare time is spent enjoying my animals, photography and watching football. (Go Steelers! (Who won the Super Bowl?) Go Hokies!)
